Successful investment goes far beyond legal formalities
INDEX is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of CNC turning machines and advanced manufacturing solutions. Through its INDEX and TRAUB brands, the German group serves industrial customers worldwide.
With Dr. Dirk Prust and Roberto Deger, INDEX has two experienced and highly proactive managing directors. They recognised early that Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most dynamic growth regions. They also identified the strong opportunities this creates for German industry, whose engineering quality and advanced technology continue to enjoy an excellent reputation across the region.
In autumn 2024, the INDEX Group began developing an investment strategy for Southeast Asia. For its market entry in Thailand, INDEX was not simply looking for support with legal formalities. The company wanted a partner who could:
Understand its commercial and technical objectives
Assess opportunities and risks realistically
Develop a structured investment concept
Support implementation on the ground
Remain involved as the project evolves
That search brought INDEX and the Sanet Group together.
From Strategic Workshop to Investment Concept
The cooperation began with a two-day workshop at the INDEX site in the Stuttgart and Esslingen region. Sanet’s management, led by its founder and experienced entrepreneur Dr Gunter Denk, travelled from Bangkok to work directly with the INDEX management team.
INDEX presented its products, technological strengths and competitive advantages. Sanet contributed more than two decades of experience in supporting foreign investors in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Together, the teams reviewed:
The purpose and long-term objectives of the investment
Potential markets and development stages
Legal and tax conditions in Thailand
Labour-market and site considerations
Logistics and local sourcing
Cultural factors and regional trade opportunities
Project and investment risk management
This reflects Sanet’s approach to investment consulting in Thailand. The objective is not to examine individual questions in isolation. Strategy, legal structure, financing, incentives, location and implementation must form one coherent concept.
The workshop resulted in a structured basis for the internal investment decision within the INDEX Group.
When consulting Becomes Project Management
In spring 2025, INDEX decided to proceed. INDEX Machine Tools (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was established as a wholly owned subsidiary. Sanet Legal & Accountancy handled the company formation.
Then, the project was submitted to the Thailand Board of Investment for promotion as a Trade and Investment Support Office, commonly known as TISO. At the same time, INDEX moved from planning to implementation:
A location in a WHA industrial estate near Rayong was selected
An experienced German manager was appointed
The BOI business plan was prepared jointly with Sanet
Legal and regulatory requirements were coordinated by Sanet
This is where investment consulting becomes project management in Thailand. Sanet remained involved from the first strategic discussion through to operational implementation.
Already now, Sanet supports the monthly Accounting Service, handling payroll and social security, manages visa and work permits and also assists in day-to-day business.
When consulting Becomes Project Management
In early May 2026, the Thailand Board of Investment approved the INDEX project for investment promotion. A few weeks later, the Department of Business Development, which forms part of Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, issued the required Foreign Business Certificate.
The project had reached several important milestones:
The Thai subsidiary had been established
The local management structure was in place
A suitable industrial location had been secured
BOI promotion had been obtained
The legal basis for the business had been established
But the cooperation did not end there.
With his expertise, the experienced and prudent German Managing Director of Index in Thailand, Oliver Prpic, encouraged the Group’s Management to take the next step.
Production is On Its Way as the Next Step
Therefore, INDEX’s Managing Directors, Dr Dirk Prust and Roberto Deger, assigned Sanet to prepare the next stage: preparing the next legal steps for establishing production in Thailand for the APAC region. INDEX Project Manager Fabian Dorner and the Sanet team reviewed possible BOI categories, commercial conditions and the requirements for another business plan.
Oliver Prpic and Sanet combined their deep experience in doing business in Thailand in a highly professional cooperative way. In early July 2026, the new INDEX promotion application was accepted by the BOI for being presented to its Board.
